Indian Ship Position and Information Reporting Systems (INSPIRES)


Origin and Purpose:

INSPIRES is a reporting system established in 1986 by Indian Navy along with the Directorate General of Shipping to exercise ocean vessel management for security of vessels close to the Indian coast.


Participation:


*All Indian merchant vessels including coastal vessels and fishing vessels of more than 300 GRT.

*All vessels other than Indian-flagged vessels of tonnage 100 GRT and more are encouraged to participate voluntarily.

*All vessels above 100 GRT, carrying dangerous and hazardous cargo transiting through Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) are required to report their position, 48 hours prior to entering Indian port or 24 hours prior to entering Indian EEZ.

Vessels traversing/entering Indian EEZ from neighboring countries shall also require to report details of cargo 24 hours prior to departure from the port.


Types of Report:

Sailing Plan (SP), Position Report (PR), Deviation Report (DR), Final Report (FR), and any other Report.
